The Platanistas (Plane-tree Grove)

ANCIENT TESTIMONY · PAUSANIAS 3.14.8–3.15.1An island-like ground ringed by tall plane trees and a moat, entered by two bridges with images of Herakles and Lykourgos. Here the youths fought in bands, after sacrificing at the Phoebaeum near Therapne (3.14.8–10). Nearby was a hero-shrine of Kyniska, the first woman to win the chariot race at Olympia (3.15.1).
